Do you know the entrance to the ‘Casino Zollverein’ restaurant? Here we have visualized a canopy. In the following video you can see the canopy in front of the entrance, but it’s not real. It’s not really there, but only in mixed reality.
What is Mixed-Reality?
With mixed reality, the real and virtual worlds merge together. You see your real surroundings, but digital objects or information are also superimposed on your field of vision. In mixed reality, you can interact with the virtual objects.
In the example, for example, the position of the sun and therefore the shadow of the virtual object as well as the size and color can be adjusted.
If you look closely, you can see that the canopy is not real. How can you recognize it?
Do I need expensive hardware for this?
You need a VR headset with the ability to display mixed reality. The video was made with the Meta Quest 3. This costs around €550. Meta has released an even cheaper model with the Quest 3s (329 € with slightly less performance, but also usable), the Meta Quest Pro delivers even better images and can do a lot more, costing around 1200 €. The Apple Vision Pro then costs around €4000. However, Apple will certainly bring out even cheaper variants. (Prices: fall 2024)
In our experience, a Meta Quest 3 headset is perfectly adequate for presenting the products!
It’s that easy to show products to customers in their environment. 👍
